Since its creation in 2012, the Windom Community Garden has worked to create a gardening space that provides opportunities for people to grow their own food, increase healthy activity, get to know their neighbors, learn from each other and create a productive and beautiful commons in an urban area.
The goals of the Windom Community Garden include: • Growing healthy produce for families in the community • Providing an educational opportunity for children • Provides gardening opportunity for townhome and apartment residents without yards for home gardening. • Foster a sense of community among a diverse, transient population. Developed from a former MNDOT construction staging area, the Windom Community Garden has grown by leaps and bounds since its creation and now counts over 50 individual gardeners as its members and contains 44 garden plots (15 4ft x 20ft plots and 29 4ft x 10ft plots) as well as communal herb spirals, berry beds, and fruit trees.
